This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the character of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
