LA Erupts in Celebration as Los Angeles Dodgers Secure Second World Series Championship
The City of Angels witnessed citywide celebrations after the Dodgers won a nail-biting seven-game World Series championship. Supporters worldwide joined Angelenos in celebration, marking the first time in a quarter-century that a franchise has secured back-to-back championships.
Victory Parade Draws Massive Crowds
Local events included a downtown parade on Monday morning, a reserved-seating event at the team's home stadium, and impromptu gatherings across the city.
Online footage depict countless of Los Angeles residents packing city center avenues, many carrying handmade banners and Dodger flags. The team was seen riding high on a double-decker bus through the masses, hoisting the championship trophy high.
“I’m already thinking about the next championship we’re going to achieve this,” the star player remarked through an interpreter.
The parade route ended at Dodger Stadium, where the team walked out to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard spinning music and the artist cruising a light blue classic car around the stadium’s outfield.
Early Celebrations and Player Reactions
Celebrations began prior to the procession, with supporters lighting fireworks in the roads of Downtown Los Angeles on the previous evening.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, named the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, spoke directly about the victory.
“We refuse to lose,” Yamamoto said. “I adore this team. I love Los Angeles.”
Varied Responses and Community Spirit
In contrast, Mark Walter received a less warm reception at the celebration. Recordings from the gathering appear to show Walter walking onstage to a mix of applause and boos, with negative shouts interrupting his address.
The World Series acted as a bright spot in what has been a trying year for Los Angeles. An approximate 225,000 people showed up to the championship parade last year, and according to Dodgers player one athlete, fans this year demonstrated equal or greater support.
“It seems it’s nearly twice from last year,” Freeman said. “These fans are crazy. It’s so awesome to be a part of this.”
