Jurgen Klopp says coming back to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club is an option. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-year spell featuring Champions League success and ending the club's long wait since 1990, now holds positions as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured England's top flight under Arne Slot, but many fans who adore the manager would welcome the possibility that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he shared with the podcast host: “I said I will never coach any other side on English soil. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, so I could make the decision down the line, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, it's not necessary. I can just see what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding the specific conditions must arise to bring him back to management, he revealed he isn't eager to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for press conferences repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, yet sharing a meal with the players talking freely, is pleasant. We won a lot of games so there was often a very good mood around the place. I still have Van Dijk's laughter in my ear as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended of the current boss, praising him for the adjustments that won the league in the previous season. They've been defeated a string of losses in every contest following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the notion of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. An outstanding player. Ekitike, incredible player. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, a player he signed while in charge, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international was killed in a vehicle collision with his brother in July.
“Can you substitute such an individual? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the dressing room without him in it. I still cannot speak properly about it. It was an incredible shock for his teammates too. No one within the club would cite it to justify results yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Dealing with that individually is not easy. Overwhelming.”
