Israelis have gathered around the country to remember two years since the Hamas-conducted attack on 7 October 2023, as talks advanced in Egypt over a conclusion to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The incident resulted in over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as hostages. It was the single most lethal day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are regarded as trustworthy by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"The bloodthirsty adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," the leader remarked on that day.

He also promised to "realize all the aims of the war: the release of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer pose a risk to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership postponed state commemorations until 16 October - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still occurred across the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas attack was conducted in the coastal city. Put together by the families themselves, it was aired on Israeli broadcast stations.

A period earlier, a minute's silence was respected around the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas representatives convened in the Egyptian coastal city of the Egyptian city for a continuing round of mediated discussions to discuss the terms of the proposal.

A prominent representative familiar with the discussions said that an late session of mediated discussions commenced at evening in Egypt.

The representative stated the morning session concluded without significant progress, due to disagreements over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas demands to ensure Israel does not restart combat after the first phase of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "difficult and have yet to achieve any major advancement," but mentioned that facilitators are striving to reduce the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Critical Matters in Discussions

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The trade of the captives still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies provision
  • After-conflict management of the region

Citizen Sentiment

In Tel Aviv's public square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling lived through the incident on the outdoor event, where many attendees were murdered and dozens more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - told: "No place feels like home anymore and until all the hostages return no one will feel safe."

"Once we see everybody home returned, we can relax again. Then we can begin to heal," she continued.

Near the prime minister's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people assembled to express their solidarity for the relatives of the hostages. Israel reports 48 continue in confinement in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Activist one woman stated: "We need do any agreement required for the abducted to be released. But we really want promises that we will be secure."

Research now frequently demonstrate that around seventy percent of Israelis want the war to finish in return for the freedom of the abducted.

Gaza Circumstances

At the site of the gathering, grieving people assembled to remember the victims.

From that location, the noise of military attacks and explosions could be detected just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the heavy Israeli shelling carried on.

In the main city, attacks were reported in the early hours of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and locality districts and in the east side district of that sector, as well Shati refugee camp to the north-west.

"Once the dusk falls, the anxiety comes with it," evacuated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing earlier, shared.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are resting together, embracing, notably my youngest child who places his face on me all night."

"Continuously we look at the updates to see the situation. And I'm worried that this halt will not be completed and that the war will resume to us."

Health Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area announced it had received the bodies of six people by the daytime, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the southern area.

A different healthcare center in the southern city of the city reported additional victims had been transported. An individual was killed by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get help to the south, medics reported.

The territory's health ministry reported a significant number of the {territ
