Iranian Forces State Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - stated they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations associated with the the regime, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported missile fragments landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
