Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for questions to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points naturally but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the trust. But I've not talked to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase like this with outcomes like these.”
He finished, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And until it is removed, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
